I was cruising one of the shadier sides of the internet this morning--don't get excited, it wasn't THAT side of the Internet--and I discovered that, supposedly, in the event of a nuclear attack on Britain, the BBC World Service has a plan that they would immediately begin broadcasting "The Sound of Music" to keep the populace calm ( Read more... )

If I had to hear the Sound of Music, I would probably crawl out into the radiation, pop my ear drums, and slither around on my decaying flesh.

C'mon people... it's REFERENCE material! If the world ends, we'll need to learn how to make our own clothes, escape from our oppressors (provided they dont kill all the nuns first), and learn how to rebuild society in a militaristic fashion (like using a whistle to call us for dinner).

It's brillant!

Frankly, I think they'd do better playing Monty Python Sketches over the radio. I'd hate for alien anthropologists to come down and think that Julie Andrews was considered normal for Earth. I'd rather them think us quite silly for purchasing a dead parrot.
