Hospitals at the holidays have got to be the saddest places in the world--the only place that might match them, I think, is being in the drunk tank on Christmas eve. Over the weekend, my father--who suffers from severe mental illness--appears to have had a heart attack while living in his car. He's currently in the hospital, suffering from pneumonia and congenital heart failure. This is the fourth major hospitalization in under a year-and-a-half ( Read more... )

Just heard back from the state writer's union about my request to have "sexual orientation" added to the bylaws list as one of the groups that the union does not discriminate against.
