Get Steven King's book on writing. It's like some old guy is sitting next to you telling you how it is without being boring. Very useful.

+ You look Russian in that pic. ^^

So cold in Siberia.

My disguise. The mink coat was ideal. With a coat like that I am cool with anything above -10C. But please no wind chill, it feels like dying.

I have only just read my first SK. It's his most recent short story collection. I got really scared of being alone afterward haha, such a wuss. For some reason I thought his writing would be overly utilitarian, but it's not at all. I'll check the library for his nonfiction, thanks bro

I think any particular word count ultimatum from anyone should be ignored since output (esp. quality output) varies widely from person to person, although it IS best to write every day, and if setting a word count is helpful then you should set a word count that works for YOU.

not that i would know since i typically spend months at a time running screaming every time i try to write anything other than inane tweets

BUT I'M SURE IT MUST HELP IT'S ONLY LOGICAL

of course even that has exceptions b/c sometimes it is better to just step back and take a break.

ALSO DREAM JOURNALS

but maybe those are only useful to people who like weird shit idk

^^^^ preaching to choir sobbbbbb wakaru yo.

Hoping the 1000 word suggestion meant any words, good or bad. I suspect the trick to consistent production is the ability to just take off and go for pages before stopping to judge/edit material. Because who writes 1000 good words every day. OTOH discipline has got to foster improvement, so maybe it's like being a pro violinist. Skip practice for one day and you'll hear it, skip practice for two and everyone will etc.

Does LJ count as a dream journal haha. Sometimes I also write frothing counterpoints to strawman pieces at overthinkingit.com and similar. Which I never send in because I wisely sleep on bad decisions;;;;;

As to writing OBV I am no expert but when my mom was working on her novels it helped her a lot to follow the NaNoWriMo type "output every day, even if it sucks - editing can only be done on things that have been WRITTEN" format and it worked really well for her.

I think I am so feelings-oriented and precious about my work that watching it suck destroys the magic for me. I need dat magic in order to keep working on something;;;;; /life failure

No that's understandable; everyone's process is different. My mom knew she had to write a novel and that meant that she had to churn out a lot more than she was used to writing, which meant quantity was > quality until she got a handle on what she was working on and it was taking some shape.

OMG the architecture! Those lines! ksjdyghfk I'm not sure when I got so gay for architecture.

I am obviously not up for giving writing advice because my rule of thumb is generally 'vomit words on a page, poorly edit and hope nobody notices your typoes' but every writing book I ever read that didn't suck was all about the discipline and hard work. This was my favourite. My mum got it cheap at a white elephant sale and I've always figured if I wasn't too lazy to take the advice it would be the most useful.
