Embarrassingly enough I dropped my bike yesterday as I was pulling out into a side street in front of a car (luckily he stopped, haha!) The video is not me by the way but it makes me feel better! I bought my new bike 5 days ago and passed my CBT (Compulsory Basic Training - UK) three weeks ago ( Read more... )

I've dropped my bike 3 times.

1st time out with heavy luggage, doing a U-turn
2nd time while putting my bike onto a trailer, so I dropped it off the ramp.
3rd time, sheet ice, at standstill infront of a primary school at kicking out time.

Doing it at a dead stop is perhaps most embarrassing at all, but on the bright side there's the least chance for injury when you do it that way!

I dropped once or twice when I was just learning. Always at turns, usually involving gravel. Apart from a couple scratches and a bent turn signal light, no damage.

Then, just this last weekend, I lowsided while trying to avoid a hubcap in the middle of my line when I was committed to a turn. I was doing <25mph, so it wasn't too bad. I still managed to hurt my left ankle/foot, left wrist, and right shoulder. Somehow the bike ended up on top of me, would have liked to see video of that if it existed. Fortunately, I always wear full gear, and it protected me reasonably well. My textile pants are trashed, but my leather jacket barely looks like anything happened to it. Sratched the face screen on my helmet, but the helmet itself looks like it took no damage. I need to figure out where to take it to have it inspected to see if I can keep using it or if I should buy a new one.

I've never dropped my bike.

I have dropped my Ruckus twice. But that's because I was specifically out hooning when my city iced over and shut down. I took the day off and spent it tearing around on 1-2" of ice. And I may or may not have been drinking the second time. It was a gloriously good time. If this sounds like an advert for hooning, on ice and snow, on a ruckus, it most assuredly is. =)

2 or 3 times. First as a complete noob pointed uphill, trying to turn right from a complete stop.

Then one dopey time when I was pushing it through a gate. I learned it was best to straddle it through that gate.

Happened once to me. Everyone was speeding up after the lights turned green. My forehead got itchy, so I automatically raised my hand to scratch it, and at this very moment the car before me suddenly started to brake. I pulled the brake hard with my right hand while trying to catch the handle bar with the left hand. But the bike started shivering more and more and finally fell down. Luckily, everyone around just stopped dead in their tracks, so I just got up, waved thanks to everyone around and rode on.

My advise: never take your hands off the handle bar!! (unless you really have to and really sure there's going to be no surprises...)
