Thanks, man. I guess I'm just trying to figure out where academia fits/is going to fit in my life, and the reviews help with that in some way, though writing is just as much a chore as it ever was. I know how you feel, though--a lot of academia feels much less relevant on a personal level now. Even reading is really different; I'm reading a lot given the amount of free time I have, but it still feels like a much smaller amount than grad school, where it was literally a daily thing.

Also, I'm glad to hear that you got the wedding details worked out, and that you got on full-time at Red Hat--excellent news in both cases! Sorry I've been my usual lazy self about keeping up on comments.

You've been busy! It's great that you've written some things for PopMatters, keepin' the noggin tuned and academic-y.

You win because you're ahead of me on The Wire! I've only watched the first 2 seasons, then got distracted by a billion other shows. But I've heard great things about S4&5 so I've gotta get crackin'.

Yet paradoxically, the Internet has also led to massive amounts of wasted time on my part. :-) Yeah, it's been good practice to write--I've actually kind of missed it, though I don't miss the rigidity of deadlines, etc.

Maybe so, but you win at pretty much everything else regarding good television! I 'm still biding time on S4, trying to decide whether or not to wait until Christmas (since I asked for the DVD set). I think you'll enjoy S3 also--the narrative is a bit more consistent quality-wise than S2 (which wasn't exactly a slouch).

Do you think the job is something you'll stay with for awhile? That's one of the difficulties I'm trying to reconcile about my position--it's great in a lot of ways, but I'm already like, "What's next?," because there's not a sense of permanence attached to it.

I'm still working on the Bad Religion album. The opening third is superb--one of the bst starts to an album that they've had in a long time. After that, I think it drops off a bit, but I've listened to those first five songs a lot more, which probably skews things a bit. At any rate, you'll enjoy it.
