Title: Les Vacances noires
Scene Title: La Menace
Progress: WIP
Saguru put his hands into the air, showing that he himself was defenseless. "Randolph..." he began slowly, "think about what you are doing. I am not your enemy--"
"Bullshit," hissed the younger boy in heated English before hastily switching back to Japanese. "You've been against us--against Arsène since the beginning!"
"While that may be true," allowed Saguru, keeping an eye on the weapon trained on him, "I have never expressed any desire to do you or any of the people here any harm. You're hurting yourself and them more by doing this than anything I have ever said or done--"
"You don't know that," spat Randolph.
The blond then gestured to the misfits watching the entire tableau macabre with wide, comprehending eyes. "For God's sake, man, they see you as an older brother and you are waving a gun around like a madman! The same kind of man you claim they have been saved from--!"
"Shut up," came the interruption with more of a panicked undertone. "I'm not like them!"
"Then why the bloody hell do you have a gun on me? Does Arsène condone this sort of action? Violence? Senseless threats of likely death?"
"Don't you wish, tantei-san," came a low voice from behind the second-in-command who stiffened in surprise and apparent horror.
Obviously, Randolph had not planned this scene to be witness by Arsène himself.
The thief seemed to understand this as well and calmly commanded, "Randolph, put down the gun."
A long silence came in response and, to Saguru's dismay, the gun remained steady. Glancing to Arsène, he saw the grim lines on his classmate's face as he remined behind his subordinate, in his blind spot.
"Randolph," said Arsène, voice a dangerously low pitch, "don't make me have to tell you again--"
"I'm sorry," broke in the second-in-command quietly, "but I can't trust him--"
"I'm not telling you to trust him. I'm telling you to spare his life and spare yourself the guilt of killing again!
The the statement ended in a shout was surprising enough but to learn that Randolph had once committed such a crime... "Again?" asked Saguru, not able to help himself.
Randolph glared at him.
Arsène answered for him, not taking his eyes from the younger boy, "It was self-defense, tantei-san, but Randolph has a sense of paranoia about people being out to hurt him or others close to him. Can hardly blame him, considering how it happened."
"Arsène," said Randolph warningly.
Saguru gave the thief a baffled look. "And you allow such a loose cannon to take care of things while you're gone? How do you know something else hasn't happened?"
"I wouldn't ever--" began Randolph shortly.
Saguru snapped bck just as heatedly, "You are currently aiming a gun at a person--you're more than just capable."
A slight waver began to appear in the other's stance at those words.
Arsène took another step to place himself closer. "Randolph. The gun. Put it down or give it to me. Just stop torturing yourself. Hakuba Saguru is not your brother."
"Brother?" echoed Saguru with numb understanding.
The two ignored him, Randolph's features twisting into a grimace as his eyes became more glassy with unshed tears. He bit his lip for a moment, breathing uneven and rushed before he finally choked out, "That's not what this is about."
"Randolph. Look at the detective. Closely. He's not armed. And you have him at gun point. Think about why you pulled it on him in the first place--"
"He was threatening us," said the boy, doubt clouding his tone.
Saguru immediately began to object, "I was only--"
"Tantei-san, keep quiet," said Arsène in a backhanded manner. The detective did as he was told, more bewildered than anything. "Randolph, you know that detective would never hurt a flea. And he really does mean well, even if he goes about things in a clumsy sort of way."
Saguru inwardly sighed, wondering if he should feel insulted or not.
