Holy shit dude, that second Russell one is phenomenal. Ryan's was damn good too, He's really good at storytelling. You really should keep in mind though, you are the single most naturally talented artist in our group. If you really wanted to do this shit, you could. I've always been totally down with the group project Idea. We need to find some sort of common thread to start working on. Any ideas?
We need someone who knows how to build a website. I have no problem shelling out some cash to get one up and running, and I have no problem developing content, it's the act of actually assembling the shit that's way out of my league. Someone learn HTML or Dreamweaver or something!
I completely agree with Kevin and Ryan. Remember our highschool opus, Mars Monkey? (Okay...not really an opus.) That was something you had THROWN OUT. I pulled it out of the trash, uncrumpled it, inked it, and then Ryan colored it. And it was great. If you actually sit down and finish your pieces, I really think you'd have something to be proud of. Not that you shouldn't be proud of your sketches too, as most of those are cool as well. It would just do you good to not quit after inking half of something.
Re: a website, I have seemingly unlimited space on the UConn math server that I'm only using for an asinine course homepage. I don't know if that's the kind of webspace you were looking for...maybe you were thinking more like www.coolguyswhomakelamecomicsifanyatall.com. I know dick for html, but you can learn a lot by stealing other people's code.
I'm willing to shell out for webspace and a domain name, and Suzy said she'd teach me how to use, and burn me a copy of, Dreamweaver. I was just thinking of an all purpose site where we could post whatever the fuck we want, not necessarily just art projects. Sort of an online bulletin board for us to all keep in touch. As if having a Live Journal isn't embarassing enough, it draws extra attention when we all use this as our primary means of communication. Not that I'm not flattered to have you all reading whatever I'm rambling about...
Thanks for the praise man but if you think that pannel I sent is a finished work, then you could take any one of your trashed sketches and spend 15 min coloring it and have a refined piece of art. Let me just say Holy shit Russel, those pages rule!
I just got "Flight" last week too, and was gonna write you suggesting to pick it up. Two of the contributers (Kazu and Rad) went to UCSB and I'm actually heading out tomorrow to see if I can find a copy of Kazu's comic "Daisy Kutter." http://www.boltcity.com/
Oh yeah, I left some stuff with my sister for you. She'll probably stop by the help desk when ever she is on campus again.
Kazu posts on www.penciljack.com, and www.sketchbooksessions.com/shanesboard, two art sites I frequent. He seems like a really cool guy. I got Daisy Kutter after he posted some of the concept art from it on Pencil Jack. It's pretty good, but the first issue is kinda slow
( ... )
get it together, man!

I think you have some confidence issues when it comes to what you do...I know you oftentimes look at your stuff and say "crap! trash it" (as often shown in full evidence by the words you write by your doodles). I don't think you realize how everything you automatically label as shitty are usually things that people look at and go, "wow, that totally rules!" I still have a picture you drew from about 7 years ago in a frame on my wall, and I get comments about it every year. So, my advice to you is to just say "fuck it", color it in a bit, and show it off to anybody that will look at it. I guarentee that you'll get more compliments then you expect. <3 D p.s.-Dad said you seemed like you had things "really together" when they came down and both he and mom had only good things to say.

Hey, thanks a lot, that was nice of you. I know I whine too much, but I spend a lot of time looking at other peoples work, and it's frustrating not to be at that level. I guess it's unrealistic to expect to meet the same standards as career professionals. I should probably take solace in the fact that I have any skill whatsoever considering I've only taken two art classes in my life.
I don't know what I did that tricked Dad into thinking I had ANYTHING together, but I won't take it for granted. I'd much rather have them foolishly believing I was a responsible adult than bitching about how I'm fucking up my life some more. It was nice to see them though, and the last couple times I've hung out with Mom and Dad I've been surprised at how pleasant it was.
Whenever someone draws something of me working in some shitty, dead end job at a school where I'm older than 90% of the population, I too have a hearty laugh.
Until I step back, look around, and say "Oh fuck."
Thanks for the overly generous praise. Compliments from Todd are like gold coins from Scrooge McDuck...in the sense that you have a enormous bank with a giant dollar sign on it filled with compliments that you take daily swims in. Shit. I don't know what that means.
If people propose an idea they'd like to work on, I'm in.
It's not overly generous, I assure you. I may be considered stingy with compliments, but the ones I gave, I promise you, were genuine. I'm seriously very very envious of your ability dude. Ask anyone, whenever you send me something I rave about it for the next three days. I don't know how you do it, but you got the touch. You got the power.
The "idea proposing" is kinda where I get stuck as well. This is where Geoff would be perfect. Uhhhhh.....you talk to him.
