I took an opportunity today to work at a friend of mines firehouse, as they were having their company picnic. Theyre one of the busier companies in the city, due to their being stationed in a rough neighborhood, and for that reason, I take any opportunity that comes my way to work there

Phil, this job is a thankless job most days. And I know you know it changes you. I hope you continue to love it...and if/when you don't, you should not be afraid to walk away. And, talk about it. Never stop talking about it. To your family, your fellow firefighters, a counselor, with anyone you feel comfortable sharing it. I've seen it slowly eat away at men and change them, make them angry and withdrawn and I hate that.
And, thanks. Thanks for doing the job and thanks for writing.
