It seems as though I should say something sage and profound at this first entry - but perhaps it's enough to have made it here. My freind and incredible beta Kelly has guided me this far - and no doubt I'll be casting for her lifeline from time to time until I learn to swim in these strange waters ( Read more... )

Hello, my friend! Welcome to LJ! Here are some fun communities you might consider joining. Then lurk around for bit and see how you like them.

Just click on the group name to go to it; you can join or watch from there (there's a menu of options on the right-hand side). (Clicking on the name will take you to the Community Profile; to see the actual postings, just click on the community name just underneath the profile heading; you'll see what the actual journal looks like. If you scroll down on the profile page, you can see a list of members, too. Any people also on your flist will show up in bold.)

fangirl_tour The Fangirl Tour is a rec community that posts a baker's dozen of recs (all fandoms) every Monday through Thursday. It's very Hermione/Severus-centric, but don't be dismayed: there are many good recs for other fun pairings and fandoms, too (and you may be coverted to SSHG yet!) It's a good intro to some of the possibilities of LJ.

Kelly, can you recommend any Journals/Communities about Minerva McGonagall, recs/arts with her and so on?

The only specific Minerva community I know of is quinquatrus, although it's not very active (it gets a few posts now and then). There's also the Old Lady Smut Brigade hp_oldladysb, which is also occasionally active.

Thank you! I already watch the Snapenews and quibbler report now - finally, there is some light coming into the vast darkness LJ was for me most of the time *g*.
I've found one myself yesterday but have not yet looked much into it, minerva_magic:

My icon is a crude and not really adept manip of "my" Sigune art called "her glasses". I have a second commish open with Sigune, but she's too busy at the moment to work at it and as we both changed our initial ideas about it, it will take some time. It will be a MMSS, though, too.

Hi Moira,

thanks for the link, and nice to see you, too, on LJ. I'm on LJ since some time already, but never found my way around really well yet - for one thing, I feel more at home in the world of the Forums, and then I never had anyone give me a tour or anything. I must say, Kelly's links are really helpful for me, too :o).
