Well that was easy, but...

I am ridiculously pleased with myself; I re-coloured a Sims 2 picture following a tutorial on MTS and was surprised how (relatively) easy it was.
So naturally I had to show off to someone who'd understand my happiness at having done this.

I think the difference is that the texture from the frame is included in the measurement of 380X256.

So, do you mean that perhaps I should have made the picture 370x246? I don't know; the Maxis picture frame is equal on all sides, so I don't understand why the picture has warped. The tutorial I used said that you merely had to get your picture as close as you could, not that it had to be the exact size.
Still, no harm in trying to make the pic a bit smaller and see if I can avoid the warping that way.
Thanks Sue. :)

In my experience some maxis frames simply stretch the images like that(specially if you use the photo studio. The results are better when recoloring frames as any other objects, imo). If you compare the original image (the bridge) with the actual frame in game you'll notice the difference. (and jic, reading aaa00a comment, the actual size in that image is 380X256 like simpe says. With the frame included would be 521x256)

Unfortunately I personally have no idea on how to fix tho, aside from trying with a slightly different size, or maybe another frame.

I see, I wasn't sure if this was the only way to re-colour pictures, I'm still a complete n00b when it comes to creating my own CC.
So, if I make the original picture 521x256 it might be the correct ratio? How do you know it's that size BTW?
Thanks for popping by. :)

lol, sorry, I meant the whole texture with the frame included would be 521x256. The image on it is still 380X256, but the result tend to look stretched like that. :)

The photo studio is the best, easier and faster way to recolor single frames, but as you can see it's not always 100% accurate. When I started recoloring pictures I used to have the same problem with a few maxis frames, so ended up recoloring with the object workshop instead. It general works better for me, tho still some frames tend to stretch the images at the end, anyways. :/ (specially that frame. Maybe another one could work better)

I see, yes I should try using some other frames, if that one is a particularly bad one then it can only get better.
And I want to figure out how to use Object Workshop. Better go on a hunt for tutorials. 8)

Congrats! :D Now you can fill your sim houses with all sorts of custom art.

I think that particular framed picture might stretch over a mesh that is larger which is accounting for the distortion. It looks fine, though! I'd not have noticed had you not pointed it out. If you want to make sure it's not your mistake, then just put that image on another framed art piece in the catalog.

I am rather pleased that I've figured it out this far by myself, and you're right - it's going to be so cool to have my own choice of pictures hanging in my sim houses.

You've also made sim pictures Fuzzy, did you use the simPE Photo Studio too?

I'm definitely going to experiment some more with it. :)

I use Wizards of SimPE (which is a little program that comes with SimPE, look in the start menu) and Corel Paint Shop Pro. I pick the object I want to recolor out of the catalog, then it gets saved in a "projects" folder I can then access from PSP. For framed art, where the frame is part of the overlay image, I can make sure my own art fits only within the space it's supposed to take up. Usually I simply cut the original art out of the image then fit my own behind it (as a layer pushed to the bottom), adjust to center or show what part I want framed, then merge the layers together. The Wizards program then imports the recolor into the game for me.

Meant to mention, the Wizards program is how I made these custom bed covers, too...
