Why would someone do this, go through all the trouble of pretending to be an accountant when it would be so much easier to not be one. Because you get bound in, you say you will and then you have to and then they expect you to and it just seems easier to do it.

You could be stuck doing far worse things. As accountant, one's hands are always soft and there is little to do 75 percent of the year.

You should have that looked into; it's not normal.

I could be stuck doing worse things, but that somehow isn't my standard for employment.

Also, finding that quote in a book felt like a tiny piece of Christmas.

I agree work should be something you are stuck doing. If it is soul crushing, you should move on.

That is a great, apt quote for your situation. It is hard to think of another context where it would be relevant.
