highway to hell ... kwite literally

I returned home earlier this week after enduring and surviving the so-called 'best mass evacuation' in US history. I will never be able to forget the experience and though I’m not a very religious *in the normal sense* person I pray no one ever suffers so greatly again. Let me tell the tale of failure death misery and chaos I bore witness to, I ( Read more... )

Pasadena here. We were going to leave, decided against it, heard the horror stories from relatives and friends who decided to, and I believe every word you've written here. The City of Pasadena website claimed fuel trucks would be stationed along the evacuation route starting Wednesday afternoon or so. They didn't start arriving until Thursday night, and from what I hear most of THOSE had to go back because oops, they brought the wrong nozzles!

WTF.

As for the National Guard, we saw live footage of them beating feet out of town and heading for AUSTIN until the storm blew over. They also got relatively unimpeded passage on I-10.

I repeat: WTF.

My family and I have taken to referring to the evacuation as the Category 5 Clusterfuck.

Glad to hear you, your friend, and your kitties are home and safe.

hola random ... may i suggest starting with your local media and demanding to know why this wasnt covered? the entire trip i saw no more than 3 civilian helo's 2 lifeflights and 1 houston pd helo.

im fairly certain that by day 2 the news media could have had a dozen helo's zipping up and down i45 for a better view of chaos.

God, how horrible. I'm glad to hear you made it through okay, but I'm so sorry you and others had to suffer like that.

I will be linking this in my own LJ, if that's allright.

feel free >^-^< as soon as my friend can recover enough to pen his recollections of the time i'll be linking it. i do knot know if his rememberences will be as kind as mine however, he seemed a bit beyond pissed 90% of the 1st 12hrs the rest of the time we were too busy hunting for food fuel and water, not necessarily in that order.

Welcome to the human existence. People backstab each other frequently to make themselves feel better--Bush is the president of that just as he is the president of our misbegotten country. Of course, I'm sure you know that better than most at this point.

I'm glad you survived, although I don't know you. We need more people willing to fight.

thanx im glad i managed through relatively intact, i dont think the country is misbegotten so much as utterly misdirected and mislead and to be perfectly honest im well past tired of it.

i'v got a few things in the works that will not be easily ignored or swept under the rug and i fully expect a major scrap on my hands but *shrug* i been through worse.
