This weekend was Papa's graduation / birthday / going away party at his dad's place. It was a pretty fun time. We got out there around 1:30 on Saturday and ended up leaving pretty close to midnight. I wish there was something more I could say. Things... just aren't going great right now, for a lot of people. Things have been changing constantly, and with the economy right now... it's bad. I know I'm bringing food with me to the con just to try and not spend too much.

What happened with Jess??

There is this awkwardly-parked FedEx truck at the end of the alleyway behind our house where she usually parks. It's basically situated such that you can't see traffic coming from the right when you're trying to turn out of there. She was edging out to try to see what was coming and got nailed by some dude. Apparently the FedEx driver has been warned before by the sheriff's deputy that lives in our neighborhood, and he showed up when this happened, so hopefully there will be some form of insurance compensation going on here. It'd be sweet if FedEx had to pay to fix her car.

Damn straight, there better be! No matter if he had been warned or not, if they're blocking a way in or out so traffic can't be seen, they are responsible. There's no way Jess could have done something safer. SPECIALLY since he was already warned...!

Yeah. Hopefully things will work out. Here's the other thing I'm worried about: if Jess can't make it, I'll have to be the driver on our way down there. I have very little inner city driving experience, and tend to get nervous driving in tight quarters like that. Downtown Baltimore has so many confusing one-way streets and things, and I'm worried about wrecking my own car. :(

If only I was another two months along I'd be happy to send a Nasty Threatening Lawyer Letter(tm) on her behalf.

No idea what's going on there. You'll need to talk to her directly. Try calling her at the end of this week - presumably this will be enough time to figure out what's going on with getting her car fixed.

What happened with Jess and Kim? Did the glass place have a massive round of layoffs?

No, I'll be there. I'm just depressed about the lack of so many people.

And yeah, essentially they're just cleaning house and firing lots of people. They both got axed within a week of one another.

If I can work out the money, I think I can be there for at least part of the convention, although I must admit that I'm still concerned; the wedding comes before everything else, and a lot of things have come up in a short space of time. On the upside, you should probably talk with Kim about her situation; sometimes you never know your luck.
