I'm playing through this too, now, and I felt really bad when one of the major NPCs got incinerated before my eyes. As for battle tactics, focus your main character almost entirely on magic and the game gets SIGNIFICANTLY Easier. Early on just a broad selection of elements, and later Drain and Holy Dance mean they can handle pretty much anything

Kresnik, or whatever his name was. He got away in the Miss Mari storyline battle. And then Kaido murdered Keisuke almost immediately after. x_x

Do you know of a walkthrough or somesuch that has information about what level you should aim to be by various points in the game, ideally at the end of each day? That would help immensely.

Oddly, also, I absolutely hated Midori right up until the very moment she joined my party, and then I fell in love with her.

See, what you need is a roommate who likes mindless level grinding. So you play the storyline while Bree...err...I mean this roommate...does all the leveling for you.
