when i light your darkened door, will you curse the day?

Thanksgiving was fun! I ended up seeing Twilight.

I didn't want to see it, but I ended up ACTUALLY LIKING IT? The first half only, though. I loooved the whole Forks town feel! Mike & Eric stole the show, as well as Billy & Charlie. And obviously Jacob -- he was all smiley and flirty! which was exactly how I wanted him. I am really liking Taylor now. He's so FUN. And I'm actually looking forward to New Moon (but I'm probably going to have to walk out at the end because I'm a pansy) -- JACOB AND BELLA. The second half was where I became disinterested because of the lack of basically this entire paragraph.

I thought Kristen and Rob were such a solid pair but they really fell flat in the film. But Rob & Jackson's facial expressions to Bella were the BEST, so I guess it evens out. And Emmett is so precious - Bella? Italian?

(also, isn't Metric's "Help, I'm Alive" such an Alex Drake song? I AM SO EXCITED FOR ASHES TO ASHES.)

Speaking of British shows with serious UST, I did a picspam for picspammy's challenge: Premieres and Finales. This is Wire in the Blood's 3.04 "Synchronicity". I was going to do 2.03 but the caps were so bad. But honestly, I want to kiss whoever did the cinematography for season three on the mouth because it got SO PRETTY.

3.04 Synchronicity

CAROL: Are you with someone?
TONY: I am now.
CAROL: What you celebrating?
TONY: [hands her a glass]
CAROL: Sorry, what are we celebrating? [pause] What did the hospital want?
TONY: There's something wrong with the x-ray machine.
CAROL: That's not what they said. [pause] Sorry, I'm nosy - part of my job description.
TONY: What did they say exactly?
CAROL: -that I should ask you.
TONY: They think it's a brain tumor. It's cranial meningioma. But if I can pronounce it, there can't be that much wrong with me.

CAROL: Did you ask for a second opinion?
TONY: Yeah, they sent for a specialist to cut my head open and have another look. Just wasted another thirty quid.
CAROL: [starts crying]
TONY: Carol! Don't, please. Carol, I'm not dying. Chances are it's benign.
CAROL: Chances are?
TONY: Alright, well sort of benign. In time it'll affect my movement, speech, coordination - I'll probably have to give up ballet. Carol, it's not happen for years. We're all going to die of something.
CAROL: Are you going to take time off?
TONY: You trying to get rid of me?
CAROL: On the contrary.
TONY: Cheers.

CAROL: Hi, Tony. What's the news?
DOCTOR: You're... Dr. Hill's partner. Wife.
TONY: Is this word association?
CAROL: I'm his next-of-kin.
TONY: I need to go to the bathroom.
DOCTOR: I'm afraid there is cause for concern. The tests seem to indicate Asperger's syndrome.
CAROL: Oh, no, he's always been like that.
DOCTOR: Really? He seized on quite minor details and drew the most extraordinary conclusions.
CAROL: Was he wrong?
DOCTOR: ...anyhow, we need to monitor his conditions as it deteriorates.
CAROL: But I thought his tumor was benign.
DOCTOR: That's possible, but it's growing, and it's starting to encroach on his brain. The longer we leave it, the worse it'll get. We'll know more when he's seen a specialist.
CAROL: But he says he feels fine.
DOCTOR: Denial's a common reaction. Then guilt. Then anger, then despair. He'll need a-
CAROL: -partner. Friend.

TONY: You don't need me. You need a decent bookie.
CAROL: Are you going to go back to the hospital?
TONY: Actually, I'm going to try hang-gliding. It's all of the risk of a brain tumor but more the glamour. See, that's the thing about gambling. It's addictive, self-destructive. He couldn't stop even if he wanted to. The gamblers think they have a system. They can beat the house, but the house always wins - it's fixed that way. His luck will run out. You know, all good things.

TONY: Do you ever wish we were still lovers? That weekend in Paris. We spent two days in bed. Oysters from room service. We should do that again.
CAROL: Tony, we were never lovers.
TONY: But it felt like it to me.
CAROL: No, what I mean is that it never happened.
TONY: [finally looks at her]
CAROL: I'm sorry. You must be thinking of -

She's going to say "someone else", but he gives her THIS LOOK and it's obvious that he's not thinking of anyone else at all.

TONY: ...I can't think straight. I don't know what's real, what's accident, what's intention. I don't know what's me. What's this? [points to photos] What's this? [points to brain]
CAROL: Tony, you've got to try and hold on, okay? You're still here; you're still you.
TONY: When I talk to myself, there's no one there. I miss me.

CAROL: I could cope, you know. With all those deaths - part of me can treat it as the job. Losing you I couldn't cope with.
TONY: I'm not too crazy about the idea, either.

Oh dude. When Carol was in the hospital in 3.01, there wasn't a lot of touching - AND NOW. They've come so far - I'm so proud of them.

SPECIALIST: Take your time. You have plenty.

DON'T YOU LOVE HOW THEY LOOK AT EACH OTHER AS HE SAYS THAT??

CAROL: Looking for faces in the clouds?
TONY: No, I was just thinking about - [turns to her] - hang-gliding.
CAROL: Shouldn't you wait until you lose the staplework?
TONY: No, I'm tired of putting things off. Come with me.
CAROL: No, I've got work to do.
TONY: You're making excuses.
CAROL: Yeah.
TONY: Life's dangerous. Come with me.

EL OH EL, HANG-GLIDING. What a metaphor. ALSO - I like how they talk here without ANY PAUSES; they just speak what's on their mind, which is such a relief for once. I love how it ended with a closed door - they're finally open, public.

I normally watch a comedy after marathoning a drama, but I'm still on a Robson Green & Hermione Norris kick. I was thinking of going back to Spooks but I can't really get over Ruth :( I think I'll go with Touching Evil UK since there's Robson AND Nicola, which excites me so much I can't even!
