Beware the Ides of March

Mar 13, 2009 14:37

OK, I don't think it's the Ides yet.  If I remember correctly from Julius Caesar in English class, the Ides was the 15th, and Caesar was warned about the Ides on the 13th, which has happened now for two consecutive months.  Read into that what you will.  I believe the story of Caesar is the reason for the whole Friday the 13th superstition, giving ( Read more... )

What bothers me about The Rock is not his acting. It's that he's fallen into one of Hollywood's many traps. That being, the "Tough Guy vs. The Kid(s)" trap. It's tired. It's cliched. And the fact that it still seems to make money can only be blamed on the American movie-goer. The only movie of this type that I ever liked was Kindergarten Cop. I also am a fan of Big Daddy, but I don't think that one quite falls into the same mold. I'm actually curious about the new Witch Mountain movie, though not curious enough to pay to see it. Wasn't there a talking cat in the originals or am I thinking of a different movie?

I heard Coraline was less than memorable, which pleased me for some reason.

I don't remember enough about the originals, but you may be thinking of The Cat From Outer Space...orange tabby shorthair with the lights on the collar??

"...it still seems to make money..."
And that why the studios keep churning them out. They know Junior will coerce Moms into dropping a good portion of her discretionary cash on a formulaic pile of crap whose humor is aimed squarely at Junior's demographic.

Let's just hope Disney doesn't discover Condorman languishing in the vault and try to revive that one. Actually, now that I think about it, with the advances in CG and FX they could probably make a much better go of it now. I remember nothing about that film other than a guy in a goofy birdsuit, a big yellow speedboat, and an intermission right in the middle of the show.

I could sooner do Condorman than a regurgitation of Benji and the first of many sequels, Benji Goes Ad Nauseum, Part One.

For some reason I was thinking a gray tabby instead of an orange, but now I'm not sure. In any case, that one was highly forgettable.

Oh dear Lord...remember C.H.O.M.P.S.???

What did you say? Beware the Gay Pride March???

As for consecutive Friday the 13ths, it should happen about every seven years, unless the turn comes up on a leap year, then you'll have to wait another seven.

As for Witch Mountain, that used to be one of my favorite movies as a kid.
