you see this is the problem. you cannot come off of a day of silence for your cause and post this about other people being ignorant. thats why the cause gets ZERO support. you are being ignorant to people who have different views by shutting them out. they may do immature things like tearing down posters, but posting this certaintly isnt helping ( Read more... )

"and what is really annoying is that people werent speaking, but MOUTHING and PASSING NOTES, THATS NOT SILENCE."

i second that. i second that completely. i understand its frickin hard to communicate that way but i disagree with talking any way if your cause really is silence. its supposed to communicate something more but really people just sit there and make more fun of you than anything else on any other day. this is like whether or not you're gay you're getting made fun of for it. and its not like people care if they didnt already. think about it.

i think if GSA is really about bringing people together, they wouldnt feel the need to set themselves apart. but i cant really explain how i feel about this without offending everybody but hey its how i feel. I have NO problem whatsoever with anyone who isnt just plain ole straight- i just dont get the silence thing. i mean i understand the concept but i cant be apart of it when theres too much about it i just dont get. idk man whatev.

i don't think anyone is realizing that it isn't just a Collins Hill GSA thing. it's a national day recognized all over the country. it was the first time we tried it as a school. i only know of 2 people trying it last year. it is very hard. i as an officer take responsibility for the posts and the fliers and stuff, it should have been known. but we are in high school and people are stupid. some members fully didn't understand the actual purpose of it.

so once again sorry about the actions taken by other members and even me. i know i was mouthing words. and if you want to judge me for that then it is fine. but once again... my apologies for the negative tone toward the day.

I did a day of silence last year for a different cause (domestic violence) and it was one of the most influencing moments of my life. To sit and be completely detached from the world around you be not being able to communicate in any way is completely eye opening. I doubt a single person I saw participating today got that experience. You got what it would be like to go hoarse and lose you voice. I doubt that’s how harassment victims feel. And not only did it become completely wasteful to those participating, but it was a waste of time for those you were trying to raise awareness among. No one stopped to think of anything because writing notes and mouthing words shows no sacrifice or dedication, yes, it probably was a little inconvenient. Harassment is NOT inconvenient. So what is the point? Honestly, if I didn't personally know what was going on, seeing what I saw today would have completely turned me off to GSA and all it stands for. All you got across is a "Look at me! I'm not talking!" I saw ONE PERSON hand over a flier with the ( ... )

Austin..I agree with you 100%...while I'm sure the intent was good...a lot of people took it out of context. I didn't understand the point of it earlier today..but now I see that..if done properly..it really is a good thing. Thank you to all of you for posting to make it a little more clear to me.

I Love You Austin!

Hey austin its me Juliet from ITS fetival/nationals last year. We here in AZ had the day of silence and me being one of the most supporting people did not do it. because even though people do it like everyone has said they mouth words and only experience "loosing their voice" practically and not the real thing. I say why be silent i understand its to show what people go through but i say why be silent if anything we should show how strong you are by not giving people a chance to walk on you.So even though its a great idea i think it should be recongnized but not a publicity stunt. I totally 100% agree with you. I had a few gay friends agree on that too. Thank you for showing me that were not alone here in AZ.
