Sure you can use them! :) I'd be honored if you did.
I'll try to explain how the best I can.
First make sure you are logged into your account. Whichever icon you want to use, right-click on it and choose "save as". Remember where on your computer you saved the icon(s). Then go to this page: http://www.livejournal.com/editpics.bml. On the left-hand side there is a blue box that says "Upload new userpic". Click on the button that says "browse". Search for the icon you want to use that you saved from earlier. When you find it, click on it and hit the "enter" key on your keyboard. Then hit the button that says "proceed" at the bottom of the blue area and your icon should be uploaded! I hope that helps. :)
