i am not sure how to take this. is it really sincere or only schmoozing to please local officials? i know italians can be pretty sensitive when it comes to the pope and love hearing foreign celebs saying such things to the press.

Where are you, bb, to help me with translation? You know my Italian is less than stellar! ;)

You have to ask yourself one question: does Mike really need to please local officials in Italy and to say what they wanna hear? He doesn't. He could answer with 'it's private'. I think he does believe in God, one way or another.

I also have a hard time believing this. His agents have been extremely sensitive to him making any controversial statements, and politics/religion fall under that umbrella.

I see your point, but saying that you believe in God is hardly controversial.

IA, I don't think its a huge deal, nothing too controversial to say you believe in God and want to meet the pope. Many people that aren't religious at all still want to meet the pope. I wouldn't read too much into it.

No mention of swimming in front page either, just that terrifying picture of Messa after he was pulled out of the Ferrari yesterday :(
