i think we must not have big expectation for mike in rome because a lot of his competitors starded their training earlier than mike.

Here's the thing that is playing around in my head. MP wanted swimming to get more tv coverage, mission accomplished because NBC will be showing the Championship in Rome. BUT if he's not there competing, even if NBC says they're going to show more swimming events, will they if their ratings tank because people wanted to see MP swim and he doesn't? I mean for him to get that kind of continued coverage for his sport, he's part of the deal. It will fall apart I think if he's not a visible competitor, especially with so many other swimmers taking this year off. The endorsements are all good and dandy, but its also a vicious cycle and he's got to be competing to keep that kind of attention. Or else all this attention for his sport goes away for another 4 years.

You bring up a good point...but the Grand Prix was what started this whole...conversation. I have no doubt he'll make it to Rome, I'd just rather see him in training mode *now* and in Austin in March. I believe Octagon needs to put the speaking engagements and appearances on the back burner and let the guy get back to normal.

I do agree with everything you bring, up though. Personally, I think that's one of the major reasons he's even going to compete in Rome...his connection with NBC. If he didn't have that I'm sure he'd be more apt to skip Worlds this year like some other elite swimmers are.

And I can ignore the Grand Prix at Austin. Meaning MP's team thought about it and decided it was not possible. I get that. But at some point, something has to be POSSIBLE.

I think I've been waiting long enough. So he can get his ass back in Baltimore and stay there. Thank you. ;)
