FYI in case you haven't already checked it out, MP's statement of apology was added to his Facebook fan page, and comments have been added again. The statement was also added to his swimroom.com blog.

So far all we have a few Twitter updates...when it first came out, he expressed that he was concerned and that he hoped people would maintain some perspective. Later on after MP's statement was issued, he said something along the lines that he thought MP should have waited 24 hours before saything anything. I'm not so sure I agree with that assessment because of the seriousness of the situation, but GMM's never steered us wrong. I just need a bit more insight than a few Tweets, though. He may have a blog ready by tomorrow.

I'm not totally convinced they knew about this "ahead of time" due to the fact that Phelps took off from Tampa so quickly. I mean, he was in Riyadh on Tuesday, probably left for home the next day, got to Tampa on Thursday, and Friday he was gone. He was a no-show for the Leather & Lace party in Tampa Friday night after he RSVP'd that he'd be there. Plus, we all knew he was going the game after the Ravens lost to the Steelers ( ... )

Honestly, I see Phelps as being a victim of his own generosity when it comes to this new entouarge he'd picked up. At first, I remember how he had stated that he flew a buddy of his out to Beijing to see him swim. And then we he started travelling, namely the first trip out to Vegas, he was with friends, but then started getting intros to the Vegas crowd. Next thing you knew, he was surrounded by poker players all the time because of his passion for the game. That's when the worm started to turn, I think. Gone were his swimming buddies, his high school buddies, his college pals. They'd been replaced by a much seedier bunch who were more than happy to get on the Phelps bandwagon because of the perks. The date for training started getting pushed out, he was hardly ever home...this wasn't the swimmer that I and a lot of people here went crazy over. Something was just *off*. We would talk about it some, but then we always came to the conclusion that he's 23, he's been locked up in training for the last 3-4 years, blah, blah, blah...let ( ... )
