I'm going to go out on a limb and say there must be a connection between bats and thunderstorms. Maybe when a storm catches a bat unaware the thunder and or lightning makes them seek immediate shelter wherever. You're the second person to report a bat in their home last night.

Far more funny, the second was a guy I work with who was trying to hint I should go capture the one in his house.

and having to rid hallways, rooms of bats in the past it seems the only time they make any noise is when they're either hurt else think they've found a way out but just can't fit through it...
