Intro to Lesbian Culture

This semester, among other things, I am taking Intro to Lesbian Culture at MCTC. It happened to be the only class that worked both for my schedule and towards my Women's Studies certificate, that I hadn't already taken. I was a little nervous initially, because I am a real talker in my classes, and my outsider status had me a little worried about ( Read more... )

I am not going to take your class with you, as, you know, I have this damn book to finish and damn classes to teach, but I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts. I often wish my students were more articulate about class, in particular. Maybe I'll get some tips on how to draw such conversations out.

I'm teaching a medieval women and gender class, which I began by (among other things), talking about the problem of being a straight white able-bodied upper middle class married homeowning man with all the power in a room with 13 female and 1 male student. It both got them laughing and thinking about such issues beyond the confines of the medieval context.

Oh- I so badly want to take that class. Although, I'm pretty sure I don't want it counting towards my GPA. :)

I totally understand you being too busy and important to play my reindeer games. (Incidentally, this reminds me of the animalization of the feminine/ feminization of animals aspect of patriarchy that I learned about in my ecofeminism class a few semesters ago. So ok. Maybe I'll go with my 'super cool culturally inclusive humanities internet smart-people game' instead.) But if you have time every now and then, I would find your perspective highly valuable, even as highly privileged as it may be.

P.S. I really like that as a cold open. I might have to work it into my non-existent sociopolitical comedy routine.

This is a brilliant idea. Things are a little hectic, but I'll try to come play.

Hey for whatever reason the links weren't working when I clicked on them- they did however work when I copied and pasted!

I'm interested in following your course, and maybe making the odd comment, I probably won't do all the reading. I'll point Carole at the Native American link.

But your links are not formed properly. For example, I had to find the Beginnings and Definition of Terms links by cutting and pasting the text of the url.

(Yes, I'm the kid who sits in front of the classroom with his hand up a lot...)
