What sort of camera are you looking for? What do you want to do with it? I'd be hard pressed to call any one camera "best" in that price-range. That Sony is both high resolution and high sensitivity, but at the cost of high of image noise. There're some six megapixel models that have better signal-to-noise ratios (ie less "grainy") while still providing still provide excellent resolution.

Think about what you want in a camera. Wide andgle? Telephoto? Size? Manual controls? In that pricerange you can get some things but not everything. Also, be sure to budget for accessories like memory, a case, and possably rechargable batteries, depending on the model.

Yes, I'm looking into this and that.... The Sony camera looks to have kind of a lot for the money, but I am going to browse around quite a bit before I buy. I have about a month before I'll have the money available anyway....

Do you sell cameras at Schiller's? Perhaps I could come in some time and you could pitch me?

I mostly do custom work in the lab nowadays, but every Saturday I do indeed click on my nametag and sell cameras. If you would like to be pitched, by all means come on by. We mostly carry Canon and Nikon, but have a smattering of other brands where they have something unique. Not that Sony though. We sell a lot of Sony video cameras, but they're kind of a hassle to deal with and they use propriatary memory when it comes to still cameras. We'll bring few in when they occasionally have something groundbreaking, but not most of the time.

The funny thing is, Sony actually makes most of the sensors for everyone except Canon, Panasonic, Kodak, Samsung and Leica. It's kind of cool actually, because the common sensor lets you see who's doing the best job with their lenses and image processing.

Enough for now. I'm ignoring Wendy.
