The "tells"

May 12, 2006 15:00

These are the clues I put into the first chapter of the story "Differing Points Of View." If you haven't read it, this post is one, giant spoiler.

Just because Dorian couldn't figure it out doesn't mean the reader can't.

1) Dorian realized the Russian had not moved from beside him.
Because Klaus is there to rescue/protect him.

2) Dorian heard the man beside him light a cigarette and take a long drag on it as if contemplating whether or not to divulge this information.
This should be the give away. It is such a Klausian thing to do. Light a cigarette and act as if you have all the time in the world--even with a bomb set to go off in 5 minutes only a few feet away.

3) He counted eight quick shots, in groups of two. This guy is a pro. Two shots each to the heart, no doubt.
I'm not sure if this counts as much as the next one. But if the reader is aleady starting to suspect...

4) Eight shots in a seven shot clip. Definitely a pro.
Which we know the Major does because of "The Alaskan Front."

5) “Then I’m glad I killed them.”
As the series goes on, Klaus gets very territorial where Dorian is concerned. In "Emperor Waltz" he tell the CIA guy that only he [Klaus] hits "this bugger."

6) He heard more voices but the man beside him did not slow down. He moved at a steady pace until they reached the lift.
Iron Klaus in full glory here. Can you hear his tromping footsteps?

7) Dorian was suddenly shoved into the corner.
Also like in "The Alaskan Front" when he shoots the gun out of the KGB man's hands.

If you didn’t figured it out by now, it's just way too late. ;-D
