As early as last Friday I heard that the CEO of Merrill Lynch was resigning because the bank had lost more than the gross domestic product of many third world countries in the sub-prime mortgage debacle.  Until yesterday, I hadn't heard an actual figure for his "retirement" package.  I haven't been asked to leave a lot of jobs in my life, but even ( Read more... )

I couldn't agree more. You see this in the car industry, too, among others - CEOs make disastrous choices, ruin the business, and lose hundreds or thousands of people their jobs while they walk away with a giant golden handjob. Worse still, Stan O'Neal will probably hide his $160 mil in investments and never pay proper taxes on it.

Your Royal MacTrouserly-ness, welcome! You know, now that you mention it, I've never received a golden handjob either; life is way too short.

As for bad people taking care of their own, may they suffer unwanted golden showers for the rest of their days.
