Shot By Lightning

This weekend I was outside working on my house (Got so much accomplished. Well done, me.) and a couple of neighborhood girls about age 10-11 stopped by and yelled at me to get my attention. So I stopped working, put down the tools and turned off my iPod. The reason they had stopped the Obviously Busy Person from working was to ask, "Is it true ( Read more... )

Really? I mean I have no reason not to believe you but that's just so damn nasty. Can I blame it on where you live? And no, do not suggest to me that it would be better in Texas, because I'm not buying that! Wow!

Silly girl -- all things are better in Texas. Just ask them.

It might be the neighborhood. It's blue-collar, conservative, and filled with elderly people for the most part. It's a wonderful neighborhood in a lot of ways, very safe and friendly, but yeah - a bit 'where is your man', apparently.

I'm anything but silly. :-P

I guess so. Aside from a bizarre incident when one of my neighbours confused Sharon and I and thought my father had died when it was her step father who had passed away, no one has even commented on the change in my living arrangements. Local mores perhaps?

LOL! That's AWESOME!! I mean, not the stupid sexist part, obviously, but the "is it true your husband got shot by lighting?" part. I actually have vague fantasies of someday being the lady down the street that all the kids tell each other creepy stories about, and they're scared to get their ball out of her yard 'cause they think she's a witch, but one of them ventures in and it turns out she's really nice and bakes yummy cookies for the kids. I mean, she's a witch, too, but--cookies!

I might have a screw or two loose, of course, but it's good to have goals, right?

It *is* awesome. I kind of want to tell people that now. "I used to be married, but he got shot by lightning." Recently X & Marilyn and I were having a conversation about the The Tower tarot card, and how one interpretation is that the lightning bolt is the flash of truth that destroys the structure of lies and self-delusions. Makes "shot by lightning" a legitimate version of events, no?

And speaking of X & M -- M once told me that she used to walk past the house where she lives now and imagine that a witch lived there... and now one does. So I say, keep fantasizing and one day you might just be baking those cookies. *g*
