Being a geek about it mostly - recording everything I eat (this being 2012, "there's an app for that") so I know what my calorie intake is and trying to keep it between 1200 and 1500 a day. I've stopped drinking soda and snacking at work, which I supect has helped along with getting into a more consistent routine.
Not so far - I didn't want to complicate things by changing lots of things at once, and figured fixing my diet was more important, as it's a lot easier to cut calories than it is to burn them.
