It was time to finish this. After more than six years of hell from the place we were finally going to stand up and say we weren't taking anymore. To them, we were just pieces on a chess board strategically placed for their end game. Now we were about to fuck up their game and show them exactly what it meant to have a free will that didn't include prophecies or contracts or anything else.
When we left the school, all of us were ready. Connor was staying back with the slayers and holding ground for the army that would no doubt be unleashed. We'd had it rough for the past few months since he'd gotten back and since Lexi had been turned, but as we left the school and Kennedy and I started out together, I turned back to get one last look at him. His eyes locked with mine and I nodded at him. If anyone was ready to stand up to the Senior Partners, I knew it was him. And it was all because of him that we were able to do this. I got that now. I really got that. Finally, I turned to leave and the rest of us headed out the door.
The group of us split up several blocks away from the firm and the plan was for Kennedy and me to walk through the front door. Nice plan, right? Yeah, hopefully. I hoped Kennedy was going to be okay once we got in there. Things between the two of them weren't exactly the same as it had been with Dom and myself, but one look at her and I knew she was determined to see this through. Faith had warned us both not to get trapped in the Dom's favorite room and I was pretty sure both of us had every intention of staying out of there unless we were the ones in control of it. I didn't really want to send Kennedy to the bottom of the ocean, thanks.
We both stopped at the door once we'd gotten to the building. I looked over at Kennedy, my sword gripped tightly in hand. "Let's do this." A nod of confirmation and we walked through the doors like we owned the place.
"Angel! Oh my god, what are you doing here?! Mr. Su-"
"Harmony, you need to get out of here right now," I said firmly and looked at her hard. I should stake her on the spot, but she wasn't exactly my enemy, so I'd let her get the hell out if she could. "Now."
Ignoring anything else she said, Kennedy and I got to the elevator and I pressed the number for Dom's office. Vampire detectors didn't do shit when you had them as your CEOs and secretaries.
The doors pinged open and both of us stepped out. Dom's secretary looked at us like she wasn't sure what to say and we both ignored her. "Ms. Aries isn't to be distured right now, she--"
"I'm sure she won't mind if we drop in for a visit. We're her favorites," I said and stood back as Kennedy opened up the door to the office. She was sitting at her desk looking as innocent as ever. Except for that crazed look hidden behind her eyes.
"Hello, Dominique. It's been a while."
