3. Character Information II
Age/Appearance: Eighteen years old (One year on from Canon) and approximately five foot in height. Pasha is short and curvy for her age, she has curly brown hair which is usually worn scraped back into a plait or messy pony tail. She has blue eyes and is very pale, she has a small smattering of freckles over her nose that she despises. She still has a lot of her puppy fat around her face and she’s a little baby faced. One can tell she’s a military girl by her stance, she always stands with a straight back, permanently at attention. All of her movements are measured and careful no matter what she’s doing. If it weren’t for the permanent frizziness of her curls or the dark circles under her eyes from reading late and her propensity to dress in whatever is closest to her bed she might look somewhat like an average teenager.
History:
Link to Star Trek Wiki on Pavel Chekov Personality: Pasha is a very driven and focused young woman. She knows exactly what she wants and if she’s completely determined to get it, she usual does get it. She isn’t sneaky or underhand about it, but she instead uses her genius level intellect, keeping her head down and working hard. She does this because a lot of pressure is on her as the Enterprise’s ‘Whiz-kid’ to constantly perform at a high level expected by both her superior officers and herself. There is also a lot of pressure on by other people’s thoughts of her, being of a young age Pasha feels she has to repeatedly prove herself to her fellow officers, that she rightly deserves the position of Alpha Navigator which she is justly proud of.
Obviously having been rushed through her schooling at such a young age has had a knock on effect on Pasha’s social skills and sometimes she finds it difficult to connect or empathise with other people of her own age, preferring the company of people older then her who she regards as her intellectual equals. This isn’t out of malice or spite, she just genuinely doesn’t understand people of her own age. While in some respects Pasha is more mature then some of her peers but maturing so quickly has it’s downfalls and has left her left her a bit naïve to the world, although saying that she’s quickly learning and becoming more worldly due to her assignment on the Enterprise.
A thing that should be noted is she copes poorly with change, she’s very controlling about her own life and hates any kind of change that will disrupt that. She has a prefect routine set out and the slightest disturbance completely knocks her off her axis and ruffles her feathers.
As a defence mechanism, she can come off as a little cool and unfriendly to people she has just met but this is mainly her retreating back into her shell so she can observe, learn and analyze the person and generally try to figure them out. If a person can draw her out of her shell and gain her friendship, or at least drag her away from her books for long enough, they will have gained a puppy like loyalty for life.
In some respects Pasha can be her own worst enemy. She is very sensitive to criticism from anybody and particularly herself, she tends to be very strict and harsh with herself, expecting only the best from herself. In her work she is an utter perfectionist and anything less is counted as a failure to her. This is due to her upbringing, a strict mother and seven older brothers who were all brilliant in their own respect to outshine and out do as well as a father who martyred himself in the dangerous business of being a Starfleet officer.
Over all Pasha is a generally optimistic girl, hoping to find the best in each person she meets
Sexual Preferences/Orientation: Pasha comes from the twenty third century, as one could probably imagine the attitude towards sexuality is pretty liberal. She is bisexual (Rating an even five on the Kinsey scale) and tends to keep her preferences towards humans, although she has been known to make exceptions for a certain green Orion woman. She tends to prefer humans as she is just starting to explore her sexuality and while she is extremely curious by nature she isn’t quite ready to step out of that safe zone just yet. If in a relationship she would be completely monogamous and committed to the person she was with unless there were extremely extenuating circumstances.
Powers: Genius level intellect and computer hacking skills if applicable.
Reason for playing: Pasha is my favourite type of character to play; intelligent, feisty and with a serious Napoleon complex. She provides a good foil for anybody with an ounce of wit about them as she tends to challenge other people often in both their views and attitudes. I feel in Star Trek canon Chekov is a wholly unappreciated character and I find the dynamic of taking this slightly socially awkward and yet boisterous character (From what we can discern from the times he was allowed to talk) and turning him into a female fascinating as it affects her much more deeply then just slapping a pair of breasts and curly hair onto her. It goes more deeply into her psyche then that and I would love the opportunity to explore this character’s motivations and be able to deconstruct them in a place like this.
Most of all I love playing Pasha because she down right amuses me. She’s like a small yapping dog, taking on the bigger dogs in the park without a second thought. It doesn’t matter to her if a problem is bigger then she can possibly solve by herself (Such as getting into fights with Klingons in bars) she’ll try until she’s thoroughly exhausted herself but she’ll refuse to give up and that tenacious attitude really makes her a joy to RP.

First-Person: Stardate 2432.
This is the third oral log made by Ensign Chekov regarding her own abandonment. If I am newer to be found again then hopefully these recordings will find their way to Starfleet Command and giwe an indication as to what happened here. Although, ewen that is becoming doubtful. I am compiling a full report on the citizens and social hierarchy of the city. The sociologists on the Enterprise would be absolutely fascinated.
Ensign Chekov out.
Third-Person: The young Ensign continued down the path she’d been walking along, though it has long since turned to pavement and concrete. A far cry from the rural little village the landing party of the Enterprise had beamed down to. She took in the new surroundings hungrily, there hadn’t been anything like this on the maps and her blue eyes never stopped roving and exploring the sights around her, making mental notes for when she would map this all down when she was back on the ship.
Pasha looked behind her curiously for a moment, unable to see the dirt path she had walked down despite it having been on a downwards slope, though the red coloured dust on her beautifully polished black uniform boots assured her that she hadn’t been imagining things. She shrugged before moving further into the city, always looking about curiously. Whenever she managed to catch somebody’s eye, at least the people that she thought didn’t look that dangerous and who weren’t eyeing the small navigator as if she was a piece of meat, she asked them to stop and asked them questions about where this place was and what faction on the planet it belonged to.
The only thing she’d discerned was that it was a city called Bete Noire.
Pasha glanced back in the direction she had came. There was just miles of paving stone and crumbling buildings now she frowned deeply. Something was weird about this place, she could feel it itching, crawling almost underneath her skin, it set her teeth on edge. Mother had always said to trust her instinct and they were yelling for her to keep her hand on her phaser and her head down. So she did.
Third-Person #2: The first time Pasha was kissed was also the first time she ever had sex. Not making love but just coitus, in the most scientific of terms. She had rationalized it all out. It made perfect sense. It was a person she trusted, her best friend and helm partner and if she couldn’t trust him of all people then who could she?
Hikaru was the only person she could and would allow herself to be vulnerable with and that was exactly how she felt right now. Vulnerable. Pinned between the Pilot’s warm body and the cool sheets. Trapped almost by the gentle kisses and gentler touches. It unnerved her. She had always trusted her best friend to treat her like any other one of his friends. They had always been able to give each other a whack over the back of the head when they got too big for their boots. They sparred frequently and she demanded that he didn’t hold back, laughing once when he nearly fainted after accidentally breaking her arm during a particularly rough bout. She could remember later on patting him on the back and rubbing circles into his shoulder as they sat together in the emergency room.
Had she done something bad by asking him to do this? Had she ruined their easy and carefree friendship with her demands? By being a demanding brat as ever?
Without even knowing it, hot tears slid down her round cheeks. Maybe she was too young for this after all. Oh devils of hell below, he think her immature for wanting to stop now. She would just be confirming everything that everybody on this damned ship thought of her; that she was just some silly little weird math girl, too big for her boots and too bossy for her own good. Hikaru groaned against her ear obliviously, nuzzling her curls before pulling his face away from her neck to kiss her.
Her friend halted his hand that was sliding over her curves, still faintly lined from the stretch marks of the growth she had gone through as she had filled out. “Pasha-- Pash, what’s wrong? Pasha, hon, c‘mon, you’re scaring me.” He pulled out of her, kneeling up and gathering her, cradling her almost to his chest. Hikaru’s thumb, rough from fencing and smelling like the soil of the plants he loved so dearly, tenderly brushed over her damp cheeks as without a thought she buried her head into his neck as she always did when she needed soothing.
This had been a very bad idea, it had let out all types of emotions that we better off left undisturbed. “We can try again later, okay? Don’t get yourself worked up, Pasha. I’m sorry.” He smoothed her frantic curls down against the nape of her neck, kissing the top of her head and waited for her to cry herself out and eventually drift into an uneasy sleep. He slipped away from her bed with no more then a note on her bathroom mirror.
They avoided each other like the black plague for the next month.
Revisions: While I agree that there are currently some traditionalist attitudes towards women currently in the Russia of 2010 I doubt in the 23rd century the gender bias would be quite as strong and I do not feel this would affect the character as strongly as it would now.
However, growing up with seven older brothers as the only girl in the household somewhat encouraged Chekov to be a bit coarse. There might have been more pressure on her to settle down or to procure for herself a husband or family, therein making it more difficult for Pasha to get to her goal of joining Starfleet due to her mother's own views of the organization (Due to her husband's death serving with the Fleet). This shows her utter determination to reach a goal she sets herself, going against her mother's wishes and the expectations of her own family.
In regards to her age, personally Pasha is very proud of being the youngest Ensign in Starfleet's history but she recognises that it puts her at somewhat at a disadvantage. While most of the prejudice that she encounters is entirely unintentional and not meant to be offensive, it doesn't prevent the fact that it hinders her development as an officer. For example, being that they are many light years away from home, having minimal contact with their families many crew members view her as a substitute daughter, little sister or family member. Pasha is regarded somewhat as the ship's mascot.
Due to these involved feelings that many of the crew have this can cause protectiveness that hinders rather then helps, Chekov herself is more a person who would rather make mistakes for herself and learn from them rather then just being told not to do something for x, y or z reason. While nobody (Besides McCoy and his 'Oh great, he's seventeen' comment in the Star Trek XI movie which could have been more of an exclamation of shock then anything else given the doctor's age) outwardly doubts her abilities as navigator, she has no doubts that they have silent worries that they do not voice about her capabilities and the responsibilities placed on the shoulders of somebody so young.
To her merit however, in the face of all of this it only continues to drive her and encourage her to improve herself as an officer. Her main motivation for this is so that she can gain the mutual respect of her crewmates and superior officers as an adult that she feels she deserves and she continues to work hard to get to attain that goal.
Personally Pasha feels on level ground with people around their late twenties but naturally it isn't often that they feel on level ground with her. She tends to relate to them better, already being settled into an important job and not living any form of a 'normal' teenage life and living more as a young woman in her late twenties would.
With regards to her age I've taken Chekov one year on from Star Trek XI canon so that it will have given the character to have a period of mourning for the events of the movie and be well into the five year mission. This will also have given her time to become comfortable with her role as Alpha Navigator and taking that away from her would make an interesting plot point. Also, progressing a year means that she will have made some more long term friendships with other crew members she may have not previously mixed with or known that well. I feel this would give a more rounded character and more for me to play about with.
