its something thats been bugging me lately, (i tend to think too much when smoking, swimming, on the bus without tunes, that kind of thing) mostly in relation to me going 9-5 and all that... how do you do this and keep your soul? how can you fit squarely into the world and be happy, and some books i'd been reading lately (the outsider, nausea, ( Read more... )

britain seems to place more importance on the person than on society compared to france

I have think about this lots of times, here is the same than in France, you see it on the tv news (which I try to never see) whenever something happens in an small village of the other side of Spain, you get to know it and everybody is worried and chatting about all those horrible things that happen arond: dogs letal bites, fires, murders, anything... Like if all the country was a big city. Local news are nicer.

Individuality feels colder but is more quiet and you dont have to worry about a fatality 3000 kms far away.

well. actually i quite like the trivial aspects of that, i come from liverpool which more than anywhere in britain is like what you've just described (probably its an irish/catholic city, very socialist and rather shunned by the rest of the country which makes us a bit insular and community minded) its not community that bothers me, its more the impulse to fit in and do what everyone else does, i'm really quite extrovert and friendly, i just cant stand the idea of living and thinking in the same way as everyone else, but feel a lot of pressure to do so (though from an undefined source, so maybe its just me.)
