Given your good taste, I will have to have a listen. Still I'm hard pressed to think of last hyped youth band that really had the proverbial 'it'. The Libs seems too long ago. I was last in Preston on a cold and rainy July weekend before the Move Festival in Manchester in 2002. Had a few pints and then was whisked away to my mates house in Southport, so I can't say I've seen all that Preston has to offer(though it's oft rumoured there is little there of note).
i've some friends there... its not *that* bad and the club we'll end up at is alright, but it is a bit of a backwater really. not as bad as southport though! (i have the misfortune of working in southport, its full of inbreds)
Preston seemed a bit rough, at least the pub by the rail station. Nothing too scary(C'mon I born in the Southern US, very little scares me).
Southport was surrounded by lovely countryside, and close to the sea which was nice. My mate who lives there wouldn't even take me out for a drink at ANY pub in the town, which says something itself. He has a pretty posh house though, and we had plenty of supplies. I can still recall how it totally pissed down before Suede came on at MOVE, was still a nice few days in Lancs.
it's not all bands.sugarspunsisterFebruary 16 2006, 06:39:15 UTC
There is definitely something about Liverpool and Sheffield bands specifically, it's not just you, and you're not the first person to suggest that concept about bands of those cities either. I prefer the Arctics to the Libs myself but ya know, to each his own and all that. Still, it's nice to see someone else not dissing them for once.
