A new biography of E.M Forster

This book review came across the wire services at work Monday night. It's quite favorable, and the book sounds well worth reading. You'll find the full review, as well as publication information, behind the cut.

Thank you! I pre-ordered this book from the library a while ago, but it looks like it's worth buying. Since I recently read the official biography this'll be really interesting.

You're quite welcome. I'm going to see if my library can get it for me.

Amazon has a Kindle version so I downloaded a sample, but it really does sound like I'd be interested in buying.

Amazon offers the hardcover for $21.45 + S&H, or $16.99 on Kindle. Barnes & Nobles is selling it for $23.40 + S&H, or $16.99 for the e-book. Book Depository offers hardcover for $20.99 and shipping is free.

Anyone else have price comparisons to share?

Read the Kindle sample ea_calendula May 21 2010, 10:32:40 UTC
I read the Kindle sample yesterday - and I think now I'll probably just order it from the library. I'll definitely read it though.

She starts out with a highly dramatized prologue, and that kind of "faction" writing is not really to my taste. And the prologue is also somewhat messy and unstructured. It gets a bit better in ch. 1, but I'm not sure I'm prepared to pay 17$ for the book, I'd rather read it first.

BTW; don't know if you are aware of it, but Amazon has e-reader applications for desktop PCs and Mac's if you are interested in reading the sample and don't have a Kindle.

Thanks for the heads up, and I'll be sure and check out the e-reader application.

I don't generally buy biographies, but I was considering getting this one. think I'll stick to a library copy.

The official biography by Furbank was better written (it's very good), and given the sample, I think this is "chattier" and less structured. But who knows... It might turn out to be better once I read the whole thing.
