Caballero's gut hung over his belt; he wore no buckle that could be seen. His black denims were clean and pressed; they weren't for working. His blue shirt was rolled to his elbows and before he sat on the bus he removed his straw hat and set it on the luggage rack above his seat. The hat was dirty from wear but, again, not from work. I could respect a moustache like that.

There's a developmental math teacher at MTSU that has a mustache like that. You've probably seen him on campus. Rail-thin, cowboy boots, belt, stetson, handlebar moustache, the works. He's incredibly OCD too, and also the nicest man I've ever met.

I remember a news story I read last year about a British man who attacked a group of boys after they made fun of his moustache. He didn't have a handlebar moustache so much as this waxed-up and curled cartoonish thing that extended halfway around his face. My favorite part of the story was the very last paragraph, where the writer mentioned, almost as an afterthought, that this guy had recently spent four years in prison for stabbing his brother to death.
