i was thinking of kids with disabilities that should drop out, bc most ld classess are fucking useless anyhow (i taught with teachers that like to teach students how to color still at that age and not learn any real life skills) and who might want to learn how to drive so they would have a job related skill. many folks i have supported have drivers licenses and get jobs that way. it's another fucking ploy to make themselves look like they are productive, but doing more of a detriment.
I don't think a person who believes that high school is so uncomfortable (for whatever reason) is going to stay there just because they will be able to legally be allowed to drive. I certainly didn't even drive when I was 16 anyway. Most of the kids, who I knew, who had their own cars and what not...would have never dropped out. The people I knew that considered dropping out, were the kids who delivered pizza's all night...or the people who had to support themselves AND others (thus were working to be able to eat....not to drive to Wonderland on weekends)....or just couldn't stand being picked on every day...or didn't see how memorizing when some old man died 300 years ago mattered to them.
god, i read about that the other day. how fucking ridiculous. they're trying to raise the 'legal drop out age' to 18 (if they haven't already). and i thought i read that they would actually *take away* licenses from people who never graduated, too. but i may be wrong. either way, fucking stupid. i don't have my diploma, but i also sure as hell can't afford to drive anyway.
Why not just line them up for public spankings and chant "Bad, bad dropouts! Highschool should be the best time of your life! You are untouchable without a paper! Stay off our streets!"
