Does anyone know anything about Cordoba, travelling in Spain generally, and whether going there at this time of year would be an absolutely crazy proposition, as it'll be baking hot, packed with lager-swilling w*ankers and utterly hard work?

Cordoba is crawling with amazing Roman and Islamic-period remains - the History section of the Wikipedia entry gives you a starting point, and Googling will throw up a lot more. Yes, it will be hot - I experienced 44 degrees C in Sevilla around this time of year, and got quite severe sun-stroke in Italica the day before. But on the plus side, the lager-swilling wankers tend to stick to coastal resorts, so you'll be fine if you're mainly visiting historical / cultural sites ( ... )

I used to know a guy from Cordoba. It's somewhere I want to go, just for the history, but what he said about the heat would put me off going at this time of year. That said, I hate the heat. I don't believe you're too bad with it. Stay out of the sun between 12 and 2, drink lots and follow all the normal Brit-in-a-hot-country advice, and you should be all alright. Were it me, I'd be waiting a month though.
