DAMN RIGHT they can. No other station is likely to reward you the way NPR does. You run into the 7-11 at about 8pm and it is even odds that you'll be gifted with Ella Fitzgerald or Satchmo or Charlie Parker when you come back out.

Ah, the joys of payola! I remember spending quite a bit of time talking about all the reasons why radio sucks so much in my Communications classes back in school.

I don’t listen to NPR, because in the car I’d rather listen to music (off of my own CDs), and outside of the car…oh hell, I’d just rather listen to music wherever I’m at, and I just can’t stomach the radio in general so I usually don’t bother with it. But even though I don’t really listen I gots mad respecs for NPR so I’ll probably throw $10 or 20 their way.

What ever happened to that massive endowment to NPR by the widow of Ray A. Kroc? I thought that NPR would be in clover until the end of civilization (you know, 5-12 years).

they get dozens of endowments, man...All Things Considered ALONE is 360,000 dollars a year, just to license it to our little local station.

i used to dig the hell out of that one. I'm a little pissed they cancelled it...or stopped carrying it on this station or whatever they did, but i don't hear it anymore.

That was the one where they acted out sci fi short stories, right...or am i thinking of another programme.

that was another program starscapes played ambient electronic music that could have been called by some "new age" but it wasn't all that way.
