As a personal favor to me, I would kindly make a request of everybody from my livejournal or myspace friends groups who posted or emailed to tell me that the Transformers movie is awesome. Please form a line to the left to claim a special, personalized once-in-a-lifetime offer, courtesy of your old pal, that Electric Bastard, Jaeger S. Meistersen ( Read more... )

You prefer the Transformers to 1408 on account of your own racist idiocy and possibly a poor choice of theater? On the other hand, I'm glad you're okay.

I don't call Afton a racist for anything she said just then...though, really, what's the point of telling me the guy's black? Is that a necessary detail? No, I call Afton a racist for all the times she's come up to me and said, "Hell, yeah, I'm a racist. I just don't like black people." I love Afton like a little sister...have since we met. But I don't approve of that kind of prejudicial attitude in anybody, and I never will.

I understand that you want to stand up for your girl and all, but it's hard to defend somebody on that point when she's concocted a plan to move to...what was it? North Dakota? Because there aren't any black people in that state.

Yeah...that was one of those moments I would have gotten 'faced if I'd been playing the drinking game.

The Transformers movie is an epic opus compared to the original episodes. Have you seen them recently? Decepticons want energon. Autobots try to stop them. New Autobot-Of-The-Week helps save the day (and hurt mommy's pocketbook because you HAD to have him!). Autobots, roll out. Decepticons, retreat. Bumblebee and Spike crack jokes and puns ( ... )

Yes. I have seen them recently. They're simplistic on account of their being a children's cartoon show from the 1980's, but they have nostalgic spark to them. There were the odd jokes, there were the posturing robots...but god dammit, they knew how to SPEAK to the children. And they knew how to do it without turning heroes into a VW bug full of big shoes and squeaking noses ( ... )

I was gonna say pretty much the same... All I was expecting was the cartoon done in live action, which is pretty much what it was. The humour was about the same, the action a little bit better considering it was live action so obviously it would look better. I came out being satisfied with the reasons I went in with.

Of course there are definitely a lot better Action movies out there, Die Hard, Gladiator, The Rock, etc...

But, I wasn't going in to see a great Action movie, I went in to see the Transformers... That movie, was definitely Transformers.

(Haha, if you went into the movie theater expecting some deep plot point I'm sorry you wasted your money expecting more than what "The Transformers" have ever been... a stupidly humorous cartoon show about Robots looking for Energon (or in this case the most powerful of energon, the AllSpark))

"Turn off your brain, activate your funny bone, sit back and enjoy.

This is one fun summer movie. Totally ridiculous. Big and loud. Senseless. Campy and dumb. But great fun." -Brian Webster

Not all good movies have to be serious or thought provoking...

Yeah, but what about those of us who found it boring rather than fun?

Well, everyone has different preferences on what they enjoy and what is boring to you compared to another person ( ... )

Well said. The movie was an insulting piece of shit. The 1986 cartoon movie remains superior, and that's sad, because it's very silly.

I'll be posting my own review tomorrow.

Booyah.

I think that the cartoon was superior only in the same way that we actually like Star Wars...it's not REALLY superior, but the IDEA is superior.

Ha! You may be onto something there. The plots may not be superior, but I'll tell you the characters sure as hell were. Even the most two-dimensional "Hi! I'm a toy!" Transformers had more going on in terms of character than the ones in the new movie (save Optimus Prime).
