I realize there's been lots of quietude, but I would love to help you guys with this. Lemme know the details, and your financial/space requirements, and I'll be happy to see what I can find.
Union Station isn't really a residential area, but it's a 15 minute subway ride from practically everywhere in the city.
Short term leases aren't a 'done' thing necessarily, but monthly are. You'd also want furnished I'm guessing?
That's the big thing, I'm not sure what to expect for price. My alternative is to get a hotel during the week, and take the train to ottawa every weekend, but that would mean all the crap of the city, without any of the fun. (avoiding this option)
I'll be working across from Union Station and want a very short, non driving commute... The one thing that I liked when I was in Toronto before was being able to move about without a car, so alcohol WAS an option. (walk/crawl to subway or Union station)

Well, you can rent in the Union Station area, but not within the budget of anyone I know. At a guess, I'd say you're into the $2.5-3.5K/month range. All luxury condos. A nice-ish 1BR in a decent area downtown is going to run you $1k/mo inclusive. The further out you go, the cheaper it gets. Union is the central station for every form of Transit in the city, so getting there is a breeze, but 15 minutes is kinda a tight fit during rush-hour to get anywhere in T.O. To be honest Jim, unless you make quite a bit of $$$ I'd say you may need to relax your expectations a bit. Hogtown ain't a cheap place to live

Remember the stories? There ARE hotels that rent by the week/month that are often cheaper than apartments in Toronto.
Merry Yule to you and all of yours. BEST of luck on contract and living space both.
