I took the kids to a medieval festival the other week, (a bit of a disappointment in many ways, although the children seemed to enjoy it), and I almost tried horse jerkey at the time (under the name "My Brittle Pony"). The main thing that prevented me was the knowledge that She Who Must is very fond of horses, having spent most of her childhood riding them, and that me eating one (or even just a little bit of one) would go down like a cup of cold sick.
I did however try rabbit jerkey, and very pleasant it was too.
Oh, Martin Cowley? Good bloke that. And the "My Brittle Pony" range is delicious, but hard to distinguish from beef. I'd recommend his "Lincolnshire Poacher" jerky, and the "Black Beauty" of the Pony range.
I see that we are of one mind on roll mops! I had no idea that they came flat-packed though! On the subject of herring-related food, where do you stand on the subject of kippers? Whitby kippers (preferably from Fortune's on Henrietta Street) are a strong contender for my all time favourite food of all time!
I completely agree on roll-mops. Kippers - depends on how well (and if) they've been filleted. I love the taste, I don't like fighting my way through a mouthful of bones.

Indeed - all of the above. My Dad is a proper cockney and still bangs on about jellied eels, mash and liquor. Cockles are another thing he likes, straight out of a jar. I'm not sure I want to eat anything that resembles dead things preserved in formaldehyde...

Laver bread is pleasant, but rather expensive, and usually canned.
"Local food" next week will include Camargue black bull, and horse. At least, I hope it will.

If a jellied eel is your cup of tea, you're doing something very wrong.
I used to like these back in my pre-veggie days! Good to see they do still exist.

And if mixed-metaphors are not your kettle of fish, then don't change horses in the middle of a china shop. That's my advice!
