I'd never witnessed this behavior until I went to see muse in france. It happened at both shows and it was intensely embarrassing, disturbing and fascinating to observe. I simply don't know how people can deal with their crazy fans and still be so nice.
I suppose some of it's shock/disbelief/awe/etc etc at actually meeting one's idol[s], combined with over-excitement, too much caffeine/whatever, and comes with the territory. *vbg* But from what you and mr_microcuts are saying, I'm guessing what you've both seen is above and beyond that.. :¬{
Ewww - that's just...well, I'm with you when you say you feel embarrassed for the people doing this kind of thing. :¬{ I've gone a bit fan-girly in front of a few people I've admired and met, but oh god, I think I'd want to bury myself in a deep, deep hole if I ever behaved like you described and then thought about what I'd done afterwards. :¬{
