The D.A. is undoubtedly an ambitious, self-righteous twat trying to make a name for himself by filing the most sensationalist, headline-grabbing charges he thinks he might be able to get away with. What lawyers do has nothing to do with facts, Mitts.

Guy fleeing the scene had some responsibility for Officer Haynes death, as he wouldn't be there if it hadn't been for him, but murder can't be right. Manslaughter?

As for the shitty driving, depends whether the guy who blindsided him had priority really. I mean, you don't pull out when you can hear the sirens going unless you're stupid. If he was crossing a major junction or something where the other cars had priority and were moving pretty fast then yes, it's probably shitty driving.

Law doesn't work like that IRL. If Haynes was rammed by the suspect it's a different matter entirely; his crashing into a car that's unrelated to the chase is An Act Of God (which god and why? Obviously not Haynes').

Yeah, but in that sense so the police chief for putting him on that shift, his parents for encouraging him to become a police officer and the men who built the road. Would you say that I had responsibility for a friends death, if she was in a car crash on the way to my party? Of course not. It doesn't become more his fault just because he was committing a crime at the time.
