Need new FTP software

Aug 06, 2008 08:50

SmartFTP has gone purchase-only. My FTP needs are ridiculously slight and I just need a good freebie program with which to modify my website. Recommendations, anyone?

Filezilla is what I use, and I've been quite happy with it. It has a nice gui and hasn't misbehaved yet. You probably need just the client (not the server).

If you're using Firefox, just use the FireFTP add-on. It's certified to be 100% win! :D

Man, FTP is right up there with "Telnet" and "Gopher" as "terms I thought we'd left in the 90's".

And for good reason; all parse their data in clear text, including passwords.

SecureFTP or SCP should be used instead.

Ah, Lev! I have a couple more questions to develop into ask-able form and send you. But my MSc is due in 3 weeks so you'll forgive me if I don't get around to that just yet...
