Hmmm

Considering how todays religions work, it's most likely that all of us are going to hell, so all I really want to do is hold the door. What's the big deal now. This mainly regards Christianity; but what I notice is that when I look around and I see all these people saying "Look at what I believe" "Christianity is cool!" "Satan is the one ( Read more... )

Hmmm.... Well, if you're going by what the Bible says (I'm not sure about the Koran), God didn't really give us free will... We kind of took it. After Adam and Eve first sinned and were exiled from Eden, God didn't directly interfere with humans and their actions, which essentially gave us "free will". And then there's that whole debate about "free will and predestination", which I won't go into because I don't understand it that well. If you think about it, though, most of the 10 commandments are not restricting for the average, law-abiding citizen: Don't murder, steal, commit adultery (a cultural taboo), etc. From reading your post, it seems like your view of Christianity (and most religions) is that if you don't do everything the Bible says, you're going to Hell. The Bible says that women can't have short hair or wear pants, yet here I am (again, that was more of a cultural thing). But I can go to a club and dance, or listen to heavy metal, and still be a Christian. All of those things are simply issues of minor liberty - God isn't ( ... )

OK, not to dispute your views, but to say that God's original intention was for us not to have free will seems off. If you consider the fact that he/she told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit, you can look and think that he didn't actually stop them.

Considering that God is the "architect", maybe he meant for that to happen. This is not to say that I am endorsing the idea of creationism, but it's very interesting that he/she would allow that to happen at all.

Now to address "predestination" for all of us, why on earth is the abstract concept of a utopia called "heaven" or the abysmal ideal of "hell". Since this "Predestination" would make our "decisions" null.

Like Pam said, I like when you post these thoughts. They make me think, and they make me feel a little closer to you since we don't chill much anymore. I love you :)
