Find more music like this on Dieselpunks yeah...
this little wonder is awesome.
I have accepted that "Steam Punk" ... while it amuses me, isn't where I've been at all these years...
greese and grime... billowing steam clouds... and the thunderous roar of a brass engine are cool...
but really... I've always been more "Dieselpunk"... a term I never really got behind... same with "Retro-Future-punk"...
but recently I read a couple articles, and they clicked...
it's the whole "what the future should've been"
I'll admit it, there are some parts of culture that shoulda stopped with Teddy Roosevelt's "Don't fuck with me" 'stache...
yeah, been reading too much of "The Art of Manliness"
fuck you if you don't like what it stands for.
every time they put more up... like "how to run a meeting like a man"
well shit, it reads like the latest "put up or shut up" book on how to do your job right that someone wants me to read...
the rules are simple,
make a plan,
let people know what that plan is,
do what you say you're gona do,
and fucking steamroll anything that gets in the way...
well, no shit.
that's how gramps did it, and they had to hire three tofu eating hippy tree huggers to do his job when he retired...
i just wish I'd realized this ten years ago when it would've been easy to get into my habits...
so how's this tie to Dieselpunk?
... right... look up Crimson Skies... Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow... even the new Pulp DC... the new wave of old...
think I might have to get a new suitcoat... definately looking for a new fedora and some of those old skinny ties...
basically it boils down to... the problem with going too old school (steampunk) is that the world's still inconvenient...
cute.. but inconvenient...
you hit the 30s, and it's all whizz-bang...
bad guys are starting to realize there are people worse than them, so there are limits...
good guys have drawn the line, there's certain things you just don't do as a hero..
and everyone else still stands for the national anthem...
it's a pride thing.
fogey voice: "kids these days have no national awareness, or pride in where they are..." it's all little... as big as a gang can be, it's still tiny compared to the city they're in, or the nation they're part of... and thus they're little better than primative warlords trying to eek out a meager existance...
and that's how they look... primative.... that's how they act, and talk... like a pack of neandrathals...
what's missing is the pride.
that bit that says "i'm better than you. we win not because we are legion, but because we have a higher calibre of person in our organization."
and so, smigs will revel in the world of whizz-bang robots, ray guns, fast planes and dangerous dames...
