Here's my list of recommendations! I have 18 in total. I hope you find something in which you might be interested in this list.
1. Songs/Bands/Singers:
1. Carole King, especially her album Tapestry is one of my favorites. She's a wonderful singer, and I can listen to this entire album from start to finish and love each and every song. Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow is one of my favorite songs off the album. This was one of my mom's favorite albums, and now, it's one of mine.
2. Carly Rae Jepsen is a great singer and I want people to check out her stuff outside Call Me Maybe. She makes me so happy. I love all her albums so much. Check out her I Really Like You music video starring Tom Hanks.
2. Fanfics/Original fics:
1.
touch and its memory by asukesay is one of my favorite fanfics. I constantly look forward to updates. This fic explores such an interesting dynamic between Bethany and Alex in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. I really love how this fic is written and it always feels like each chapter is written so well and explores this dynamic so completely.
2.
Call My Name or Walk On By by mizface is a fic exploring a future relationship between Steff and Andie from Pretty in Pink. This started my love of reunion fanfics, especially those exploring future relationships between characters who were teens or younger in the original media. This fic explores the relationship in an interesting and entertaining way, while maintaining their original character identities.
3. Books or a published Short Stories
1. Lorrie Moore's collection of short stories, Birds of America, is so good. I read this book for an undergratuade class, and now Lorrie Moore is one of my favorite writers. Her humor is unique and her writing is wonderfully structured.
2. The Princess Bride is one of my favorite books. I recommend it to fans of the movie, as well as people who aren't familiar with it. The movie and book are different enough and both are very entertaining and humoruous. They both works so well, even though they aren't identical.
4. Movies
1. Broadcast News (1987) is my favorite movie of all time. It's a love triangle romantic comedy, but it's so much more than that. It's a character study of its main characters, which is so great, and exactly what I want to be able to write. I love exploration of characters and their relationships with each other, and Broadcast News does this so well. James L. Brooks's script and directing works perfectly here. Albert Brooks, Holly Hunter, and William Hurt are amazing in their central parts.
2. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It's a wonderful satire of the musician biopic, as well as being a satire of specific musicians and areas of music. If you like any specific genre of music, you'll find something in this movie that's funny to you. John C. Reilly gives an amazing performance and his singing helps the film stand.
5. TV Shows
1. My recommendation is the DC Universe show Doom Patrol. The writing, acting, cinematography, is all amazing. This show makes me laugh and cry in every episode. The performances are all perfect, and draw me into the struggles of these unique and interesting characters. The show is about superheroes, but deals more with the human aspects of their characters, rather than superhero type struggles.
2. Twin Peaks is such a unique show. It's both dark and weirdly funny. I love the atmosphere and characters in this world. My sister recommended Twin Peaks to me and it's been one of my favorites ever since. It's so surreal and strange, with a wonderful mix of humor.
3. Pushing Daisies is one of my favorite shows ever. It's such a wonderful mixture of super bright happiness and darker tones. I love the musical moments, baking pies, and everything else this show has to offer. My love of baking pies started with watching this show as it aired and baking pies before the show aired.
6. Board/Card Games
1. Adversity is a game that I don't know if it even exists anymore. It's a cards against humanity style adult party game where you pick a card to fit the one in the center. Here you pick slogans for a product on the central card. It can be really funny and creative. I found it on sale years ago, and I've loved it ever since.
7. Video Games
1. The Monkey Island series is my favorite. It's amazing and really funny. The game has simple gameplay that's engaging and very fun time after time. I love the pirate themes and reference heavy jokes, including Get Smart, Star Wars, and much much more.
8. Youtube/Twitch Channels
1. Good Mythical Morning is one of the channels I watch the most often on Youtube. It's a show with likable hosts. I like how many different types of episodes they do, and they always take time and attention with all of their episode themes.
2. Pretty Pastel Please is a really cute youtube channel. I love how the host has her bird in episodes. Her videos are long, and she gives detailed reviews of clothes from stores of different quality/price levels. She never feels like she goes in with a rating in mind before trying the clothes. She gives even the cheapest stores honest reviews without automatically wanting to hate it.
9. Livejournal/Dreamwidth/Reddit/Discord/Other communities
1. RaimiMemes is the best community on reddit. I don't know what I can really say. It always makes me laugh. It makes me want to watch the the Raimi Spider-Man films again. I love Sam Raimi films from The Evil Dead to Spider-Man, and even though this community is very Spider-Man focused, everyone loves Sam Raimi is appreciates his films.
2. I really love the reddit gifts community. I mainly use it from their own website, and it's a wonderful community for secret santa style gift exchanges year-round. This community is so positve and I have loved every gift exchange I have taken part of so far. My favorite was a Cult Movies gift exchange, which was the first one I participated in. They have different categories and exchanges throughout the year.
10. Your own choice of something not on the list.
1. My favorite gatorade flavor is Cucumber Lime. It's refreshing and amazing, but I only drink it cold. This flavor feels light and sweet, but not overly. I really love it, and hope others who might like it give it a try sometime.
