Kent's shoes clapped against the hot pavement; his mailbag swinging wildy at his side. Sweat was pouring down his face, and his blue cap was clutched firmly in one hand. Every wild, gasping intake of breath became in itself a test of his will. He felt like he was trying to breath while drowning in a sea of hot sand. Every time his thick legs hit the pavement below him, it sent a shockwave of pain up through his body, to the very top of his head.
