Waiting is a terrible thing.  It seems there is more pain and frustration in uncertainty than there is in many afflictions.  I suppose, though, that there is no virtue that is without a little bit of suffering.  Nobody gains respect for things that come easily ( Read more... )

I use the Long Ave stop and I always hear the screeching at that perfect moment--too far to feel enthusiastic about running, but so close I think there's something wrong with me for not trying harder to catch it. I feel worse when I see other people struggling to make it, especially when they're farther away than I am.

And there's the oncoming traffic dilemma--do I dart out in front of cars so I can maybe get the driver's attention before he moves on? It worked the other day. But usually I feign disinterest and wait.
