True. You can parachute a millionaire into Africa with nothing to his name, and there's a good chance that he'll have a million dollars again in 3~5 years. All that means, though, is that entrepreneurialism is a skillset that one learns.
However, I don't think this necessarily means Poverty can't be eliminated or that it shouldn't be eliminated. Generally, children of poverty are far more likely to change than their parents, and IMHO they shouldn't have to pay for their parent's indiscretions. Think of how many entrepreneurs and potentially net-positive contributors to society are going to waste because their parents would rather invest in big-screen TV's and HBO than their kids.
This is the sort of story that some people find upsetting.I do believe though, that you have hit the nail on the head.
As i said in my latest OP, socialism is not a passenger service. maybe you can get on a bus and read the paper while someone else drives you into town or off to work, but socialism isn't like that- it's more like an old fashioned sailing ship where everyone on board had a job to do. Ii think that leftie politicians like me need to be upfront in saying that people have to do something for themselves to better their own lives, and not just expect the guvverment to do all the work for them on their behalf.
