Hope you don't mind me commenting on an old post here. But... OH GOD! NOT THIS VIDEO! D:
I first saw this atrocity of an 'art-instruction' video from a site called 'A Distant Soil' and HAD to link it not only to Asian_Outrage, but to my FB as well, where most of the people on my friends list are artists (me included). Because this video was not only offensive, but it was more 'WTF? Who said YOU were a 'cartoonist extraordinaire'?!' *cue angry and irritated artists*
Your drawing is a hell of a lot better then this guy, because it shows that you've obviously had practice. From the look of how he showed in the video, he has NOT had ANY form or practice of art training whatsoever. And... just seems to have some creepy Asian fetish... On the bright side, at least I'm Asian and know how to draw myself because I know what I look like. :P (Plus, it's such a good ego booster for the artists that always despair about how we 'suck.' LOL)
"Hope you don't mind me commenting on an old post here."
Naw, it's okay. I actually need a disclaimer somewhere for the embarrassing lack of comments that aren't left -it's way easier to write on LiveJournal, over Facebook, and I like the format better. So, comments are usually left on my Facebook by friends who claim, "one social network is good enough". And as far as LiveJournal, I seem to have left my friends-making ability in the third grade LOL
Anyways, about this video: The first time I saw this I couldn't stop laughing, mostly bcz it was so bad -aside from the subject matter, that is- and, really, doesn't actually focus on anything (stereotypical, or otherwise) remotely 'asian'. The most he actulay says is, "beutiful eyes" and even that could aply to "How to Draw Women" in general. There should actually be a comma after the word "Beginner" bcz it truly is a 'Beginner' who is giving this drawing lessons. Sure he is drawing the eyes "slanty" but think about how worse it could have been
( ... )
So, seeing as how my asian friends are all guys -excluding acquaintances and internet peoples- what do you think?... let me rephrase that bcz I'm pretty sure you already responded (LOL) : ...and try to ignore what I said, I'm an idiot. So, what do you think about learning to draw people of others races and ethnicities? As a white dude, myself, I've grown up with the "privilege" of being able to draw a circle, two eyes, and a mouth, and having it being immediately recognized as 'white'. Wasn't until latter on I realized how bullshitty that really was, but it makes a good argument for why anime characters look the way they do. -blah blah blah.. talk forever about that... blah blah blah...
[Holy crap! You're a girl right? I mean, I'm only going off the user pix LOL I know, stupid, right? Also I have a not-so-good memory of things people have said over at racebending :-p]
This reminds me, I've been meaning to revamp my " What Aang should have looked like... " post. There's not enough discussions about "white features" LOL.
